Junior Staff in Training
A hands on training program for early high schoolers!
Overview
Join the Junior Staff in Training (JSIT) program at Mountain Camp Marin and take the first step toward becoming a future camp counselor! Designed for students entering 9th or 10th grade, this volunteer program offers hands-on experience in leadership, collaboration, and working with younger campers—putting you on the inside track towards being hired as a full time counselor.
Program Details
- Age Eligibility: Entering 9th or 10th grade (under 16 years old)
- Duration: Flexible—select two or more weeks across the summer
- All JSITs are required to attend staff training on June 14th and 15th and must work at least two weeks of our 7 week summer
- Role: Assigned to specific camper groups with mentorship from Senior Counselors
- Training: Participate in weekly professional development (1-2 hours) with the JSIT Coordinator
- Responsibilities:
- Assist counselors with group activities
- Learn leadership and conflict resolution skills
- Plan and lead camp activities

How to Apply
Spaces are limited, so apply now! Parents/guardians and JSIT applicants will both play a role in applying for this program. Applying to the JSIT program does not guarantee enrollment.
Parents/guardians must:
- Complete the online application for your child
Following submission of the application, potential JSITs must:
- Complete a one-way video interview through SparkHire, outlining their interest in the program (~10 min time requirement)
- Conduct a 20-min zoom interview with a member of the MCM leadership team

- Do JSITs attend staff training? Yes, JSITs must attend two days of training before camp begins on June 14th and June 15th.
- Is there tuition for this program? No, the JSIT program is free.
- Is lunch provided? Lunch is not provided, so JSITs should pack their own.
- How are JSITs evaluated? JSITs receive ongoing feedback from Senior Counselors and the JSIT Coordinator.
